Challenge
The MONA SWAN, a 2006-built chemical/oil products tanker operated by UNI-VESSELS APS, faced persistent malfunctions in its steering gear and autopilot control panel. The vessel displayed an 'Emergency - servo loop 07 and 08' error, leading to stuck rudder positions, erratic rudder movements, and inconsistent autopilot performance. Multiple service providers had attempted repairs without success, necessitating extensive troubleshooting and repair.
Results
Our service engineers conducted a thorough inspection and replaced faulty potentiometers and amplifier board. They made precise adjustments and set up the system according to standard procedures. After comprehensive testing, the steering system and autopilot were fully operational, resolving the long-standing issues and ensuring reliable performance.

About Uni‑Tankers
Uni - Tankers is a Denmark‑based company. Founded in 1995 as part of the USTC group, It's shipping company that provides safe, efficient, and customer‑focused sea transport of liquid cargo, primarily chemical and oil products. With around 40+ modern medium‑size tankers (a mix of owned and chartered vessels), the company offers full spectrum services from chartering and commercial management to ship brokering and technical operations. The Challenge
The MONA SWAN, operated by UNI-VESSELS APS, faced critical issues with its steering gear and autopilot control panel. The vessel was plagued by an 'Emergency - servo loop 07 and 08' error, causing stuck rudder positions, erratic rudder movements, and unreliable autopilot performance. Even after several attempts were made to fix the issues but were unsuccessful, leaving the vessel in a compromised state. Our team encountered several unexpected hurdles during this project. Multiple faults in the autopilot and steering systems demanded extensive troubleshooting and made it difficult to estimate repair times, directly impacting the vessel’s schedule and costs. Engineers often worked overtime both onboard and while travelling to keep operations moving. Delays in spare part deliveries added further pressure
The Solution
We were approached to resolve these persistent issues. Our expert service engineers attended the vessel and undertook a thorough inspection of the steering and autopilot systems. Replaced the potentiometers and amplifier board, as recommended during the previous service. Engineers then performed precise adjustments, configured the system and set up the system according to standard procedures. After completing the work, they thoroughly tested and verified the operation of the steering system and autopilot. As a result, they resolved the long-standing malfunction of the steering system, ensuring everything was functioning correctly.
The captain of MONA SWAN remarked, "Selene Marine's expertise was pivotal in resolving our steering system issues. Their engineers' dedication and precision brought our vessel back to optimal performance."
The Results
After comprehensive testing, the steering system and autopilot on the MONA SWAN were restored to full operational status.
We have completed the service within 2 days, deploying 2 engineers. The delivery of spare parts took 15-20 days, and the actual repair was completed in 8-10 hours. The successful resolution of these issues ensured reliable and efficient vessel operations. The captain of MONA SWAN expressed satisfaction, highlighting the engineers' dedication and precision in bringing the vessel back to optimal performance.
